Andrew J. Graham: Eminent Shorthand Publisher Beleaguered By Controversy

Andrew J. Graham published over 50 best-selling books and eight periodicals that featured the Graham System of shorthand. His attempt to boost sales and legally corner the Pitman shorthand market by invoking the copyright law led to a bitter counterattack by his competitors. He was vilified by his rivals who called him “villainous,” a “flagrant pirate,” and a “mendacious braggart and egotist.”

Additional information about Graham and the origins of official court reporting in the U.S. can be found in Guardians of the Record, which can be purchased by clicking on its cover in the right hand column.
